Border Closure: NIDO Asia trains Nigeria farmers to boost  rice, processing production By our reporter Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Asia, have concluded plans to organise a free sensitisation training workshop for rice farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs and general public. This was contained in a statement signed by Engr Prof Emenike Ejiogu, Engr Henry Awoms  and Engr Ochade Osekwe, President, General Secretary and Public Relations Officer respectively. The statement said the aim was to boost local rice production and processing as experts from Japan  would teach and practically demonstrate the use of machine in de-husking, de-hulling, de-stoning and polishing of rice during the workshop. Over 6,000 people benefits from Hon Pat  Asadu  free medical outreach By our reporter Dr Asadu Beneficiaries of the ongoing one week free medical outreach organized by Dr Pat Asadu representing Nsukka/Igboeze-South Federal constituency in Enugu State have expressed gratitude to the legislator. The  outreach was in collaboration  with University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu,  while Asadu paid for  drugs and other things, UNTH provided personnel for the exercise. Opata made the call in Nsukka while delivering a lecture during the  5th biannual national conference of Music and  the Performing Arts (NACOMPA) 2019 of the department of Music UNN, with the theme "Decolonising the Music Arts in Nigeria". Israeli PM Netanyahu indicted for fraud, bribery Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been indicted by the country’s attorney-general for fraud, bribery and breach of public trust, local media reported on Thursday . Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit announced the indictment on Thursday. It involved allegations that Mr Netanyahu engaged in bribery and breach of trust to the tune of $500 million between 2012 and 2017. The full charges are to be read to the public later on Thursday. Mr Netanyahu has denied the allegations, saying he has been a victim of a politically-motivated “witch hunt”. The charges come as Mr Netanyahu was left serving as Israel’s caretaker prime minister after failing to form a government following elections in September. Nigerian Senate passes bill to increase VAT The bill which was presented to  National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari in October, seeks to increase the value-added tax (VAT) from five per cent to 7.5 per cent. If signed into law, Nigerians will pay more for specific goods and services that attract VAT. The bill will also reform the tax regime by amending several Acts, namely Petroleum Proflt Tax Act (PPT), Custom and Excise Tax Act, Company Income Tax Act (CITA), Personal Income Tax Act, Value Added Tax Act, Stamp Duties Tax Act, and Capital Gains Act. The Finance Bill had on November 6 passed the second reading despite not being fully aware of its content. 4 men arrested for gang-raping woman, threatening to leak recorded video The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four men for gang-raping a 21-year-old woman, and threatening to leak the video recorded during the act. The suspects were identified as  Collins Okpala , 25,  Nwachukwu Chimanya , 20,  Kenechukwu Anyasi , 23, and  Pascal Ogbuagu , 22. According to The Nation, the victim was raped in Ozubulu in the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state. Police say the suspects have confessed to committing the crime. The suspects were said to have recorded the rape incident, and had extorted N1 million from their victim with threats of releasing the video to the public. Confirming the incident, the state Police spokesman,  Haruna Mohammed , said the suspects have confessed to the crime. Monarch sacrifices part of his palace building for road construction By Pat Ugwu Igwe Emeka Ugwu, the Traditional Ruler of Owerre Nsukka community in Nsukka local government Area, Enugu State says he allowed  his perimeter fence and part of his palace building to be demolished so that he will not be an obstacle to road construction in his community .  Ugwu said this in Nsukka on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen, he said in every developmental project some people have to sacrifice either their land or buildings.  "For the construction of Senator Fidelis Okoro/Amaeze bye pass road I sacrificed part of my palace building  and fence for demolition to enable the ongoing road construction in my community by Enugu State government to be completed according to plan and specifications.
