I set up a committee to accommodate interest of host communities  - UNN VC

Prof Charles Igwe, the Vice Chancellor University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) said because of the love he has for Nsukka  that on assumption of office he set up a committee  to take care of host communities needs.

Igwe disclosed this during a reception organised for him  by Nsukka Town Union as the 15th Vice Chancellor of UNN at Sam Maduka Onyishi Civic Center Nsukka.

The VC who was represented in the occasion by the Deputy Vice-chacellor Administrator Prof Pat Okpoko expressed regret for his inability to be physically present in the reception as a result of exigencies of duty. 

According to Okopko the VC was ready to attend the reception but only to  receive  urgent invitation to come over   to Abuja on the eve of the reception.
"The VC has good relationship with Nsukka people because he went to primary, secondary schools,  university and has been working in the university many years before his appointment as VC. 

"Igwe holds Nsukka people in high esteem that is why as soon as he assumed office he sets up a committee that will ensure that interest of UNN host communities are taken care of ,"he said.

The VC expressed appreciation to Nsukka town  union for finding him worthy to organise a reception for him  which he said expressed the volume of love and regard Nsukka people have for him and the university 
"My  administration will  maintain and improved on the good relationship between the university and Nsukka people.

" UNN under my watch will witness academic excellence, infrastructure development and innovations.

"I solicit cooperation and support of everyone since I can't do it alone,"he said.

in a remark, the President General of Nsukka Town Union Mr. Joseph Oneyeke said, "event like this has never happened before, It's  happening today because the appointment of Prof Igwe as the vice chancellor of UNN is of a historic importance".

"It is the first time in the history of the university that someone who in all ramification is 'nwa Nsukka' has been appointed the VC of the university.

"The town union and the stakeholders gathered here today to celebrate you; rejoice with you and to assure you of our complete and unflinching support.

"We ask that the university remember and the factor our people in their various policies, especially in appointment, admission and  empowerment, "he said.

Speaking the chairman of the occasion Evangelist Sam Onyishi, athe Chief Executive Officer of Peace Mass Transit (PMT) said this the first time Nsukka Town Union  had organised reception for any VC in UNN.
"what this shows is that the present VC is special to the people of Nsukka.
Nsukka people will support him in every ramifications to ensure that he will be one of the best VC of UNN."

Earlier in a remark Dr Arron Agbo, chairman of Local organising committee (LOC)  said the event was memorable in the annals of history as Nsukka people once again expressed their natural inclination for oneness among Igbos.

We have given 21 gun salute to welcome the VC because Nsukka use gun to harald great events.
"The gun salute is another way of telling the the Chief guest that Nsukka hold not only in high esteem but also see him one of their own, " he said. 

Agbo a senior lecturer at the department of Psychology in UNN commended Nsukka sons and daughters from far and near for gracing the occasion and urged God to bless their good heart.
"The turn out of people to this event today shows the love and respect Nsukka people have UNN-VC, " he said.
The highlights of the occasion was cutting of birthday cake in honour of Peace Mass Boss, whose birthday coincided with the date of the event.
