FRSC says, it will hand over drivers under the influence of drugs to NDLEA

Mr Kalu Ogbonnaya the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Enugu State says any driver found to be under the influence of drugs during the yuletide and beyond will be handed over to National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Ogbonnaya said this in Nsukka on Thursday during the flag-off of 2019 FRSC Nsukka Unit Command "ember month' 'sensitisation rally tagged "Road Safety is a state of mind, road traffic crash is all an absence of mind, stay alert and stay alive."
He urged leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) to ensure that hard drugs and alcohol were not sold in their motor parks.
According to him, "Majority of accidents are caused as result of hard drugs and alcohol taken by drivers before embarking on a journey.
"In a bid to ensure accident-free yelitude, the commission will test drivers on the road and anyone under the influence of hard drug will be handed over to NDLEA.
"Drivers should also ensure that their vehicles are road worthy every morning before setting out for any journey, "he said.
The sector Commander who was represented by the Head of Admin and Human Resources department Mr Tony Uga expressed satisfaction on the synergy between FRSC Nsukka Unit command and security agencies in the area and called for its sustenance.
In a remark the FRSC Nsukka Unit Commander Mr Shuaibu Bello said the unit had put adequate measures in place to ensure accident-free yelutide.
Bello said if drivers and other road users would obey safety tips given to them road accident would be minimized to barest minimum since majority of accidents were as result of drivers carelessness and human errors.
"Accidents happens as result of overspeeding, inability to check state of vehicles before embarking on a journey, taken of hard drugs and alcohol, all are human errors and carelessness.
"If you are in a good state of mind and your vehicle is in a good state you will reach your destination safely.
"The aim of road safety in this ember month's sensitisation is to ensure that every driver and road user will arrive his or her destination safely," he said.
The unit Commander said the FRSC would continue to do its best to ensure sanity and safety on Nigeria roads.
Speaking, the Acting Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council Mr Cyprian Omeke implored road users to avoid absent-minded in order to remain alive.
"There is no denying the fact that over 80 per cent of road accidents are avoidable if drivers are in their right state of mind.
"To be a good driver you will not only mind your own business but also the business of other road users.
"I admonish every road user to stay alert as well as stay focused while driving in order to stay alive, "he said.
Earlier, Igwe Felix Ugwu, the Traditional Ruler of Owerre Nsukka community in Nsukka LGA commended the good performance of the present Nsukka FRSC Unit commander for his dedication to duty.
"Since Bello assumed office as the unit Commander in Nsukka, number of accidents have reduced to the barest minimum.
"Nsukka people will continue to support FRSC in its mandate to maintain sanity and safety on our roads, "he said.
Some organisations present during the flag off include security agencies, leadership of NURTW, tricycle and motorcycles in Nsukka.
Highlight was cutting of the the flag-off tap by the acting chairman of Nsukka LGA.
